Freshman Foundations in Art
Perspective
For my perspective piece, we used multiple types of perspective methods that we learned in class. I used the method of three-point perspectives while working on this piece. Along with this, I used an actual reference to make this futuristic city, this being the Aztec City [Cuidad Azteca] neighborhood of Mexico City. I then envisioned what the area would look like roughly 200 years into the future, and I went from there.
Fashion Design Croquette
For my final design, I chose a mainly light, sustained beige and yellow colors. To me, this exemplifies the colors present on a smooth, buttery waffle. The cap is a dark, almost burgundy color, to signify a topping that would normally be present on a higher-class waffle, such as a strawberry or apple. I used many different types of textures throughout each bit of clothing, to illuminate the different textures each food item compares with.
Portrait Collage
The work I did for this unit in Foundations in Art was mostly things related to the human face and body. This project we did was an exemplification of that, where I and others made a large-scale collage portrait, depicting our or another student’s face. I decided to make mines’ a self-portrait.

Surrealism
My surrealism was inspired by the surroundings and everyday things of an average persons’ life, mixed with the exotic snake, converging into this image. This contrast is what originally made me want to balance these two things together. It is also used as a political piece, since the snake transforming out of brownstones found in many lower-class communities, along with the window guards in every window, is commenting on redlining and marginalization of these places.
Still Life
My still life was inspired by the surroundings and everyday objects of an average persons’ life, more specifically, these objects are simple things that most of us use regularly during the day in a home, like the electric kettle, or the apples, or the plants filed into vases. But, my still life also is inspired by shading and other drawing techniques that we’ve learned in class so far. For my still life, I used multiple pencils of varying thicknesses and smooth watercolor paper.
Wire Sculpture
My wire sculpture was crafted through the work that I had to rush through to complete due to the inconveniences it took me to obtain aluminum wire. It’s meant to represent a spider on a web, but a lot of peers couldn’t properly discern what it was, so I think that I could’ve done a better job with the overall execution.
Line Poster
My artwork is meant to portray an elevated railroad that you might find on the edge of any borough in New York City. It’s portraying lines, through the tracks shown. Its title is just what is displayed on the poster: “LINE,” or, to be more specific, “Line drawing poster,” since that’s what it is. And, like the artwork and title suggest, I used the elements of line when I made this piece.
